STRING ACADEMY RECITALS, MAY 14 - 17TH

The Music Opportunity Program (MOP) presents String Academy Recitals this week at UAB Hulsey Recital Hall. All performances are free and open to the public.
Schedule for the week:
Monday, May 14th, 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, May 15th, 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, May 17th, 7:00 p.m.
The String Academy musicians are 3rd & 4th grade beginners who expressed an interest in learning to play a string instrument at the beginning of the school year and attended group classes before, during or after school. These eager young musicians will perform this week to wrap up the school year in concert.
Many of the students will then audition for the Birmingham String Orchestra, as well as attend Summer Strings to continue their music education.

Concert Weekend at Indian Springs School a HUGE Success!

Congratulations to the Birmingham String Orchestra, Birmingham Prelude Strings & the Alabama Youth Symphony for outstanding performances this weekend at Indian Springs School. Pictures are uploaded on Facebook. Videos are being uploaded as well!
Sixteen graduating seniors were honored on Sunday, May 13th for their achievements. All 16 seniors are headed to college; several students received scholarships! Our seniors announced that they were going into business, engineering, chemical engineering, psychology, medicine, and music. One of our seniors was accepted into the early pre-med program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Two of our seniors received scholarships of $100,000. One of our seniors is a National Merit Scholar Finalist. Several of the seniors are valedictorians for their high schools.
We thank each and every musician for their dedication, hard work and impressive talents that they share with the Music Opportunity Program. Have a great summer!

ALABAMA YOUTH SYMPHONY MUSICIANS WIN HONORS!

Three of the Alabama Youth Symphony (AYS) musicians received awards Tuesday, May 8th. Several of the AYS musicians participate in high school bands as well as the Alabama Youth Symphony. The three students play trumpet and are members of the Pelham High School Band and performed in the marching band as well as wind ensemble. Additionally, Andreia performed with the Pelham Jazz Band.
Andreia, Principal Trumpet for AYS received the "Most Outstanding Senior Musician" award.
Carson received the "Most Outstanding Sophomore Bandmanship" award.
Britanny received the "Most Outstanding Sophomore Musician" award.
